Matty’s 3rd Birthday Party Menu & Dill Tzatiki Recipe

0

We celebrated the littlest family member’s birthday a week ago. It was so much fun – we crammed too many people into our tiny apartment and proceeded to plow through a crazy amount of alcohol (for the adults of course) in a two hour span and trash the place. But above all, we ate well.

The party was 3-5. Kinda tricky time – don’t want to do a full dinner-like meal but also need to take full advantage of the opportunity to feed grown ups. I get inordinately excited about that.

We had a lovely IPA beer selection thanks to my best brooklyn mommy friend who has excellent taste in such things and my husband.  Got a box of gruner veltlinar and malbac for the wine selection. Juice boxes for kids. The rest of the menu is below. I put a large piece of craft paper on the dining table and labeled what everything was. Looked super cute if I do say so myself.

Dill Tzatiki Recipe
Perfect with crudite and pita chips. Baked in Brooklyn are my personal fav pita chip.
Ingredients
  • 17.6oz Fage 2% Greek Yogurt
  • 2-3 garlic cloves finely chopped or put through garlic press
  • 1/2 of a greenhouse cucumber (the seedless skinner cucumbers), grated on cheese grater onto paper towel, then squeeze excess moisture out.
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • juice of 1/2 that lemon
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (add one then taste to see if you want more)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (add then taste to see if you want more)
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
Instructions
  1. Mix everything together. Can be made in advance – taste again before serving to see if it needs more salt or olive oil in case it has mellowed as it rested.
