School lunches- supplies and ideas!!

I’m such a food geek that I am actually excited to pack lunches. And my guys get breakfast at their pre-K also, so I get to pack that also!! Woohoo! I’m serious – I love this stuff. I also love buying little contraptions to hold all their delicious goodies in.

lunchstuff (1 of 1)This is my newly organized packing lunch cabinet. The only items missing are lunch bottles – stainless steel – and lunch boxes (Darth Vadar and Spiderman from Pottery Barn Kids).

Some of these containers are from the past year, a handful are new from Pottery Barn Kids. Here are links for everything pictured:

We don’t use the lunch box it comes in that often, but the containers are super handy:

I also pack lunch for my husband on a fairly irregular basis (yes that is what I meant – trying to get more consistent!), and use some of these containers plus another larger lock and lock which I can’t find online anymore.

I have discovered a good habit to establish is to just pack a lunch for both the baby (ok, 2 yr old…) who will be home with me and myself, so when the older kids are at school and we are on the go, we have healthy food with us also. I love putting salads in the Easy Lunchboxes for myself. Even if I am going to be home. Can throw together 2 or 3 of them at once.

I only packed lunches for 3x/week preschool this past year. Moving to 5 days plus a breakfast component is making me plan more. I have been making batches of homemade waffles and muffins and freezing them. On the weekends I cut up vegetables and prepare fruit if needed. At the same time I cook up some grains – brown rice, quinoa – portion into ziploc and either freeze or into fridge.

We have done a bunch of day trips lately and I have packed a few lunches that have gone over very well and perhaps can give you some ideas:
